New York's Newest Teen Ambassador

Hello! My name is Maya Scriven, 15 years of age. I am a New Yorker born and raised in Harlem.  I have never been one to enter beauty pageants, but I am in my second year of high school at United Nations International High School and public speaking is a big part of everyday life. As part of my high school journey, I've learned to gain more confidence in myself and participating in this pageant would definitely contribute to me defining who I am.  Something me and my brother are working on is an informative children's book about dementia. Getting this book out into the world would be so important because dementia, something that causes you to lose your memories as you get older, is a part of life.  As the people around you grow older it shouldn't be a surprise to see these changes. With this platform, I would be able to express my beliefs and changes I would hope to make to my community.

The funds gained from this campaign will go towards my stay at the Renaissance Westchester Hotel where the pageant will be hosted as well as my needed attire.
