Trust you all are doing well and enjoying good health.
I am sharing a grave story about one of my dear friend (Gnarnarka Gomatham). Gnanarka's mother headed to USA to see her newly born grandson few months back. Unfortunately all of a sudden she fell ill and was admitted into Beaumont Hospital (Farmington Hills MI,USA). She was treated and then diagnosed with esophageal cancer (terminal stage) along with Pneumonia which had damaged her lungs. Later it was also found that she had a fistula between her lungs and esophagus and was recommended to have a stent put in to resolve the problem. The procedure was done and a stent was placed. Due to the cancer being in a an advanced stage, she developed a complication and her stent got migrated into her stomach. Beaumont Hospital didn’t have enough or proper equipment to remove the stent and so they had to transfer her to Henry Ford Hospital( Detroit,MI,USA). Her kidneys suddenly failed and now she wasn’t recommended for chemotherapy to treat the cancer inside her body.
Gnanarka's mother passed away in the morning hours on September 1st, 2017 at Henry Ford Hospital (Detroit MI,USA) after she struggled and battled for her life for 31 days in the Intensive Care Unit on ventilator.
In this process of treating her, the medical bills grew exponentially(nearly $450,000). She had a traveller’s insurance from ICICI Lombard from India which covers up to $100,000. Currently we don’t know the negotiated/ final bill between insurance company and the Hospitals. Based on experience and conversations with family and friends, the total medical bill may be expected to be around $150,000 - $200,000.
Everything was so unexpected as my friend's mother did not have any symptoms before she got admitted into the hospital. The entire family is shattered and in disarray at the moment. In this grave situation, I am reaching out to you all to help this family out. I would like to request you all to kindly help out in any possible way in order to support their family. It would mean a world to them who are going through a tough time.
