Help Hannah Publish her Debut Novel!

I’m Hannah, a lifelong lover of words and stories. I’ve wanted to be writer since I was 8 years old, but it wasn’t until a few months ago that I finally buckled down and wrote a book!

Goldwater Ridge is a middle grade novel written for adventure-lovers. It’s set in a fictional Arizona town in the Old West. The seeds for this story and its characters originated years ago as a play-pretend game my sisters and I made up together when we were little. While the story has evolved drastically to become this book, the heart of it stayed the same… and a good bit of the original goofiness stuck around, too. So, if you like reading about mysterious messages, dynamite, Shakespeare references, or bunnies, Goldwater Ridge will not disappoint you.

My goal as a middle grade author is to provide clean, high-quality storytelling for 4th-6th grade readers. (And also for any adults who still enjoy kids’ books—no judgement here, I’m totally with you!) Goldwater Ridge is a family story with themes of self-sacrifice, loyalty, forgiveness, and heroism. My hope is that this story blends strong character-building messages with a page-turning adventure that will fuel readers’ imaginations and grow their love for good books.

The hard part (sitting down and actually writing a book) is behind me. My goal of $2000 will get me through all the remaining steps of the self publishing process. Here’s a breakdown of my budget and where the money will go.

$1000 - Editing
I plan to hire a professional editor to help me develop, correct, and proofread my manuscript. Even the snobbiest of grammar snobs (like me) needs a fresh, objective set of eyes to find and fix errors. This is the biggest portion of the budget because it’s the most important step—many self-published authors tend to skimp here, causing them to produce unprofessional books. My aim is to produce a high-quality end product, and that depends heavily on a good editor.

$500-Design
Despite the famous saying trying to convince us otherwise, most people really do judge a book by its cover. I plan to commission an artist/designer to create an original cover that really wows. Design cost also includes interior formatting for the book (not as flashy as cover design, but extremely necessary.)

 $200-Production
This includes all of the nitty-gritty publishing stuff that I didn’t even know existed, like buying an ISBN, ordering and shipping ARC copies, the actual fee for uploading the manuscript to the printer, etc.

$300 - Marketing
Nobody reads a book they don’t know exists. My marketing budget will help me set up an online and in-person marketing campaign consisting of social and web advertising, independent author networking, book review blogs, author events, and more.  This will help get the finished book into stores, libraries, and schools—most importantly, into the hands of readers who will enjoy it!

$??? - Extras
Any extra money I raise above budget will go toward fun stuff like giveaways, promo merch and swag, the launch party, and, of course, the tentative publication fund for an eventual Book 2!

I really appreciate your help getting this story published! If you choose to donate, please know that your support in any amount means the world to me. And as a way to say thank you for your investment in my work, here are my gifts for all donors:
