In 2008 Archery Coach Larry Brown (former Columbia University Archery Team Coach) created Center Shot Archers to be a home for inner city youth to develop their skills as archers and to become world class competitors.
This program has supported dozens of youth to achieve on and off of the archery field. The first generation of Center Shot Archers are all attending or graduated college and are gainfully employed. One archer got a college scholarship based on his academics and ability as an archer; another continued her pursuit of unique activities and has taught English in Southeast Asia and is now working on her Masters. Our current group of incredible Center Shot Archers are competing and ranking well in local and national archery tournaments. They are dedicated, disciplined and also excel academically. They have big goals.
Four Center Shot Archers were recently accepted to attend the USA Archery Regional Dream Team (RDT) training camp. This is an amazing opportunity and we are so proud of them.
Every tournament is important and every win takes us closer to the Olympics. But away tournament are very costly. Our next big challenges are the week long RDT camp and the week long 132nd U.S. National Target Championship, Easton JOAD Nationals and U.S. Open in Decatur, Alabama in July, 2016. Our whole team will be competing.
