Last year I started the Golden Years Dog Sanctuary to rescue senior dogs from local shelters. No one wants to adopt an old, senile, ill, dying dog from a shelter, so we do! Over the last 19 years, my husband and I have saved nearly 50 dogs; some dumped in our canyon and others
from the shelters.
When we rescue dogs from the shelters, we take the old, sad, sick, never-going-to-get-adopted dogs and give them a last great life. In some cases, they only have a couple of months; in other cases we have had 12 year old dogs last two to three years.
Cornbread, pictured below, was a twelve year old "stray" dog. She was at the shelter for months and was being on the list to put to sleep. She is the happiest dog at her second chance. She has no idea she is now 13 and should settle done. She explores the farm, visits everyone for love and follows me everywhere!

Cornelius, is our latest rescued dog. He is a 15 year old owner surrender. he has cataracts making him almost blind, tumors on his belly, and trouble getting up and walking. Yet, now, he is full of life and renewed. He loves all his new sisters and brothers and won't let age slow him down!

Camper, on our cover photo, was a 15 year old owner surrender given up because he could not get up on his own. Left at the shelter, he would have been euthanized. After we had an acupuncturist treat him he was able to wander all around the farm! We gave him an extra three happy months which he would not have had at the shelter.
If you followed our first campaign, we had a five year plan to run a facility for senior dogs. We did that already! We obtained our excessive animal permit so we can have more dogs.
There are many older dogs that have been abused or mistreated, and as such can be aggressive or fearful. Providing them a safe place to call their own, allows us the space to rehabilitate them and give them joy instead of fear and anger. To do this we want to improve our current kennel. WIth new fencing, dog houses and a roof, we have a plan for 3 large kennels in our fenced in area.
The cost for these kennels and the roof is nearly $6000. Over the years, we have spent thousands of dollars treating and feeding these deserving dogs. We need your help. Please consider donating to this project so we can continue to rescue these unwanted dogs and allow them to enjoy a happy life in their senior years.
