Golden Puppies need help with Congenital Defect
Meet our Potato Pups: Fry, Chip, Tater and Spud
Fetchin Retrievers Rescue was asked by a local shelter to help a litter of puppies who were surrendered because they were born with a congenital defect where the ribs and sternum do not grow properly. This results in a concave chest. The deformity causes compression of the heart and lungs. Difficult breathing, exercise intolerance and heart issues/disease can all develop. Our puppies will need to see a specialist to determine the extent of the defect, treatment (most likely surgery), and prognosis. As quickly as possible, we need them all to get x-rays and consultations from a Surgeon, Radiologist and Cardiologist. We need to move quickly because their bones are still soft and growing. If deemed to require surgery, they will need to have splints for 2-4 weeks. Of course check ups following surgery will also be required to make sure healing and conformation is progressing. We have partnered with Rovers Retreat Rescue to help take care of these youngsters. Their foster homes will take care of all the puppies until they are healed and ready for adoption. Your help with normal puppy care, medical expenses and recovery is needed. Every little bit helps not only for these puppies but also allows us to save more dogs.
