Golden Age Games-Chicago's Veterans Team

On behalf of a group of veterans who receives care at the Jessie Brown VA Hospital, located on the west side in Chicago Illinois are sponsoring this gofundme page to ask for your assistance.
We are a group of over 55 years of age and older who along with other over 55-year-old veterans across the nation, belong to and compete each year in the National Veterans Golden Age Games in an opportunity to engage in rehabilitative sports. These activities are vital to the prevention and control of chronic condition, increased health, recovery from sustained injuries mental and physical and the overall quality of life for older adults.
Veterans across the nation train to compete in modified sporting events each year. The Chicago team is preparing for this event which will take place June 5-10, 2019 in Anchorage Alaska. Senior Veterans of all abilities and disabilities will compete in a modified version of air rifle, blowing, cycling, bocce, badminton, swimming, track, field and more. We prepare by practicing on a weekly bases, attending monthly meetings and achieving measurable goals which improve our functional abilities.
A few of our veterans who have participated in the past describe their experience as follows:
“Preparing for the games gave me back my life and a better form of myself”
“The comradery I received from fellow veterans gave me hope that I had lost in the past”
This being said we are asking for your assistance primarily in air travel to make this trip a possibility for our Chicago team of 20 veterans. Although any donations will be greatly appreciated and directly applied to cover expenses for housing and airfare. Housing cost for the games are $769.44/person and airfare cost is around $700/person.
