Gold Star Families Memorial Eagle Scout Project

Hi, I'm Pete Spillan and I'm a Boy Scout from Troop 913 in Herndon VA. My goal is to raise enough money for supplies to build benches for the Gold Star Families Memorial in Lovettsville, VA. On a huge plot of land is a Memorial dedicated to honoring fallen soldiers and their families. The Memorial's beautiful and peaceful. With no seating near by, I thought having a place to sit would would like to provide some comfort to the families, friends, and veterans who visit the Memorial to pay their respects. Many are elderly, wounded, disabled or grieving and may have a hard time standing for long periods of time. I’d also like to build two firepits to welcome the visitors to warm up, make smores, and have those talks that you can only really have around a fire.

Building these benches and firepits for those who want to be “in the moment” for as long as they want is the best project I could think of to do, honoring our fallen and providing warmth and comfort to all who come to pay their respects.
