Help Send the Knights to Florida!

Donation protected
My name is Betsy Wyatt and I am writing you on behalf of the Montgomery County Knights youth football organization. Our organization is in its infancy, just our third year as an organization. We are members of the American Youth Football League (AYF), http://www.americanyouthfootball.com/ which is a national organization. We consider ourselves more than just a “Football League.” The Knights place a lot of emphasis on education and the mentoring of all players. Our players and their families come from a range of backgrounds and geographical areas, but those differences are so far behind us now as we have become a team and more importantly, a family.

Our organization had some big hurdles to overcome this year with recruitment, player certification, equipment and funding for some of the families but we “pulled it off” and started the season with six youth football teams, ranging from 6 to 15 years old. The regular season went from August 24th through the end of October and when it was over, five of the six teams had winning records, won their playoff games and made it the Team Maryland Conference Championships in Baltimore. The Conference Championships were held on November 2nd our Junior Pee Wee team won the Maryland State Championships games and were named “Team Maryland Divisional Champions”.

The Jr. Peewees (ages 9-11) earned the privilege to represent the State of Maryland in the AYF Regional Championships in New York, playing teams in the “Big East Region” which includes NY, NJ, PA, DE and MD. On November 15th, we traveled  to Coney Island New York and played in the first round of the  “Big East Regional Championships”.  We beat the Bronx Chargers 13-2, and have advanced to the final Regional Championship game to be held here in DC on November 22. Once we win that game, our next stop is the National Championships in Florida.

The National Championships are less than four weeks away and unfortunately, the budget of our young organization is not adequate to fund these exciting opportunities for our young players. The president of our league and our amazing coaches donate so much of their time and even financial support in many cases, they couldn’t possible take on this financial burden. We have several families who have the economic means for these trips and many of them have offered to “sponsor” some of the economically challenged families by paying for an additional player and/or family member but unfortunately, that is not enough. We still need to arrange transportation, lodging, meals and other incidentals for many of our families.

We are are turning to the community, our extended families and local and national businesses to ask for support so our players can go play in these championship games, a privilege that they have earned. We are a 503c non-profit organization. If you could help us with a donation of any amount, it would be greatly appreciated. It will help to cover the costs of these expenses and help these kids with this “once in a lifetime” experience.

Thank you in advance for consideration and support. Please contact us at the numbers listed on the back of this page if you are interested helping us on this amazing journey or you can make an online donation located at gofundme.com/goknights.

Sincerely,

Montgomery County Knights Youth Football
