Going Beyond Limits for Josh

Josh Sebring is a young man with a dream like many others.  He wants to make a difference in the world.  Like many others, Josh has some challenges - and he wants to use them to make the world a better place.  Josh has Asperger's Syndrome and it is his dream to complete a certificate program in independent living skills so that he can succeed in life.  Traditional college is not an option for Josh, so he is attending Beyond Limits - a two-year faith based program that teaches independent living skills in an integrated environment.  Students live on campus and participate in classes with typical peers, have on campus employment training and specialized classes in independent living.  Josh thrives in this integrated environment where he can interact with his friends and yet still have access to any assistance he might need.  The challenge for Josh is tuition.  A certificate program like this, while very beneficial, is not eligible for typical financial aid.  In order to complete the program and achieve his goals of independence Josh needs to raise $10,000 for tuition for the school year.  This will help in covering classes, training, meals and housing.  

Josh is a fantastic peer mentor to his "typical" friends.  Recently in a class on world religions, he noticed a similarity between a religion that supports caste systems and the way he has felt in his life.  He engaged with his professor and was asked to share with the class.  Together, Josh and his professor helped other students understand what it is like to be overlooked because of a difference.  This was a great learning opportunity for everyone that happened because Josh was part of the conversation.
