My fiance and I have owned Gogurt since she was 6 weeks old. She’s been the picture of health since we first brought her home in 2016. Since then we’ve adopted two more kittens who she’s been absolutely amazing with.
The last 6 months have proven especially hard on us financially. Without going into detail, we weren’t sure we could give our 3 year old daughter a proper Christmas. Somehow we came up with the money to do so, but this has left us with just enough money to pay rent come January 1st. We have zero extra funds.
Then Gogurt got sick.
She was lethargic and hiding in our closet all day. She wouldn’t touch her food or water and hadn’t used the bathroom. We decided to take her to the emergency vet. Once there, she was given xrays, saline, and the vets took blood and urine. The emergency vets recommended having her stay 24-48 hours because her fever had reached 104.8 degrees and she was dehydrated. Nothing showed up in the xrays and nothing came back from the blood test. We are still waiting for the results of the urinalysis.
I did not realize emergency vets do not accept payment plans and in order to treat Gogurt at all, we were told that we needed to pay the low end of the estimate in full. That was $1500. Obviously we can’t afford that. I was upfront and told the vet all of this. I was then told Gogurt would not be permitted to stay and be treated. We were never given answers. I was sent home with steroids that they said would ”hopefully” kick the fever. I had to sign a contract that said I would pay back the vet and take out a loan I can’t afford for $1200.
Now, 2 days later, Gogurt still has a fever of 104. I plan to take her to our normal vet first thing tomorrow, but can’t afford that either.
We are looking to GoFundMe because we have simply run out of options and have no idea how to pay this bill. Both my fiance and I have 2 jobs and are hard-working people who have hit a financial rough patch.
Any and all donations are incredibly appreciated.
