Everyone's favorite homie, Gabe Onrubia, is facing a serious health issue and needs our help.
What happened?
Imagine going to sleep one night and waking up without the use of some of your limbs and kidneys in failure.
That's basically what happened.
Is he OK?
Yes, but he's not out of the woods.
Gabe is currently hospitalized in ICU with a pretty rare issue called compartment syndrome. It's where the blood supply to your limbs gets cut off for a prolonged period of time, resulting in severe nerve and muscle damage. He's had 3 emergency surgeries so far in the last few days, in which they remove the damaged muscle tissue.
In addition to his limbs, his kidneys are working overtime to process the resulting toxins coming from the dying tissues, but they are unable to keep up. He is running a very high risk for infection.
Once the situation is stabilized, he will have a very long recovery road ahead of him with physical rehab to regain use of his limbs.
Now ... imagine all of this without health insurance.
Gabe does not currently have health insurance or support to handle the extremely high cost of these multiple surgeries and lengthy hospital stay. He is actively scrambling to get on Obamacare for 2018 to handle the physical therapy and recovery.
How can we help?
Some of his friends have decided to help carry our buddy through this hard time (even though he has not asked for it).
Even if he is able to get on Obamacare by the deadline, it will only cover him for 2018 and forward. All of his 2017 medical expenses will be out of pocket. This can range upwards in the tens of thousands and multiply from there with each passing day in the hospital. He'll also need to deal with any physical rehab costs that happen within 2017.
