Mia's Medical & Funeral Fund

Donation protected

Yesterday, July 14th, we had to say goodbye to our sweet girl, Mia. I'm having trouble finding the words to express our sadness...as we both shared a deep connection and strong bond with her. It still feels like a bad dream, but we're doing our best to support each other during this difficult time. The outreach of friends, family and customers of Mia's Corner has been overwhelmingly wonderful. <3

We thank you all for your continued love and support, and for any donations to her funeral fund. Her ashes will be returned to us soon, and we would like to honor her with an urn as unique and beautiful as she was.

Thank you, and God Bless.

Our baby girl, Mia, was diagnosed with cancer on June 19, 2017. This is devastating news to our family, as she has been part of ours since the very beginning.  At 7 weeks old, we adopted this sweet girl with the hopes of having her in our lives for many years to come. We know that a dog's life is limited, but if there's anything we can do to extend hers, then we are going to fight trying. But we need your help...

We are asking for your help in funding her medical costs and treatments and appreciate every single dollar. No amount is too small--every bit helps! She is so special to us, and we cannot imagine our lives without her...
We thank you for your time and any donations, shares and prayers you send our way :) You can read her full story below...God Bless.

On Father's Day, we woke up and had ourselves a wonderful morning with our 8 year old pup, Mia. She slept in with her daddy, played around with him for a bit and sat next to him during breakfast. She gave him a very sweet card that tears me up just thinking about...because it talked about how she'll always be there for him. We never thought her time with us could be cut so short so quickly.

Later that night, Mia suddenly became disoriented and confused. She collapsed in a matter of seconds. We rushed her to the ER where the doctor quickly assessed that Mia's heart was surrounded by fluid. They had to take immediate action, as her heart rate was double the normal rate and her blood pressure was low. The right side of her heart was being restricted by this fluid, causing a lack of blood flow to the brain and making the left side work twice as hard.

Thankfully, a life-saving procedure was successful, and they drained about 80ml of this fluid that appeared thick and bloody. To our dismay, they not only discovered a thickness present on the right side of her heart, but multiple masses and nodules were also found on the spleen and liver, suggesting a type of blood cancer.

The doctor has predicted our time left together to be very short--between 2 to 4 months. However, with the appropriate treatment and care, and lots of prayer, this time may be extended. We have no idea when the fluid may build up again around her heart or how quickly these masses and nodules are forming. We are doing our best to stay positive and hopeful for a much longer and happy time together.

Unfortunately, the costs are adding up quickly. We've already spent around $3,300 on this unexpected emergency. Though we had no second thoughts about investing in Mia's medical care, we had intended on utilizing these funds for our baby on the way and are faced with more costs for future treatment. The doctor informed us that each visit with the oncologist will range between $500 and $600, in addition to the visits to our primary veterinarian for medications that could help preserve Mia's quality of life.

It is with a heavy heart that we ask for your help to recuperate some of the money we've already spent and for funding of her future treatments. We are deeply saddened by the anticipation of losing one baby while another is on the way. We are praying for a miracle and can only hope that Mia is with us long enough to meet her baby brother or sister and enjoy some time with us all. She is afterall, and will always be, our first baby :)

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read our story and for any donations, shares, prayers and positive thoughts you send our way. Every little bit helps. God Bless.
