Green Life Church is a newly forming progressive, inclusive, holistic, and eco-friendly ministry of Christians and others who are committed to health and wellness, peace and justice, and environmental sustainability.
As the founding minister, in January 2017, I set up a Facebook page for the church (www.facebook.com/greenlifechurch). During Lent 2017, I began field testing innovative concepts for worship outdoors and at existing venues to minimize overhead costs and to maintain a low-carbon footprint. I began serving organic and gluten-free communion elements and creating new liturgies and simple songs and chants that could be sung with acoustic accompaniment or a cappella. I also began doing outreach to the community by teaching Dimensions of Wellness classes at a health and wellness and creating and posting original mindfulness exercises and devotional messages on Facebook.
Green Life Church recently received our IRS FEIN (82-5006183) and State of Missouri Certificate of Incorporation as a Missouri Nonprofit Corporation (N000708034). We have recruited a Board of Directors and have Bylaws and a total Budget of $9,400 for 2018.
Because we are so new and are attempting to reach unchurched and dechurched persons, we do not yet have tithes or pledges to underwrite this ministry. We are seeking start-up funds of $6,100 to cover the $600 fee to apply for IRS 501(c) status and $5,500 to cover costs of marketing, worship, and refreshments, for our five-month Outdoor Worship and Spiritual Discussion series (May - September) at Waterfall Park in Independence, MO, on Sundays at 10:00 a.m. We also have scheduled “Earth Day Prayers and Praise” on April 22, and “Green Pastures, Still Waters: A Watershed Stewardship Exhibit Based on Psalm 23” at the City of Independence 11th Annual Eco-Fest at Waterfall Park. We also plan to offer a “Bible & Current Issues” study on the biblical imperative for Creation care and reversal of climate change. We will use Paul Hawken’s book Drawdown (www.drawdown.org) as a corresponding text along with The Bible.
We plan to launch a multi-media stewardship campaign this summer as we cultivate a cohesive spiritual community. To further advance our financial stability, this fall and winter we will apply for four grants which appear promising to subsidize funds raised through the inaugural stewardship campaign.
