Help a Black Non-binary Person Put Down Roots
Hi all, my name’s Kennedy. I am a Black, gender-nonconforming gardener and grassroots organizer urgently asking for your support to secure housing and some peace of mind. Like many of us, this year has challenged and changed me in ways I could not have imagined at the start of it. The most significant shifts in my life this year have been around the search for stable housing and questioning what kind of environment would enable me to grow into the healthiest, happiest, most purposeful version of myself. Anyone who knows me can tell you that I'm extremely passionate about facilitating communal growing spaces, be it by sharing urban horticulture tips online or connecting through mutual-aid food justice efforts like the Leimert Park community fridge. Recently, I completed my first big landscape design project on the home of a family friend and hope to soon return to school so I can study landscape architecture and pursue a career in sustainable practices for a brighter tomorrow. There is so much more I hope to do in this lifetime, but I am continuously reminded of the need to put down strong roots to foster growth, which I've struggled to do without consistent housing.
The most worthwhile future I can imagine involves us taking care of the earth and each other, which is why I hope you will support me by donating to and sharing this stability fund. The money from this fund will go toward my housing, cross-country moving expenses, and securing reliable transportation (which will allow me more steady employment opportunities). It is difficult to express this need and to ask for such an amount, but after much encouragement from loved ones, I am again reaching out for help. I hope you will consider any donations made toward the safety and wellbeing of a Black trans person (myself or otherwise) a worthwhile investment into the kind of future that you want to take part in. Please continue to take care of yourselves and each other. Thank you for taking the time to read, share, and giving what you can to this fund.
