Hi all, my name’s Kennedy. I am a Black, gender-nonconforming organizer urgently seeking community support to help me sure housing and some peace of mind. To make a long story short, this year I made the difficult, but necessary decision to remove myself from a living environment that was detrimental to my wellbeing. Initially, I only planned to be away for a few weeks so that I could take part in protests without endangering my at-risk elders, but I soon realized there was no going back. Thankfully, a friend has opened up her space to me during this transitional time. I will have to relocate sooner than I thought, so this description has been updated to better reflect the urgency of my need. Though this is only a temporary housing arrangement, being in this safe space has facilitated so much healing for me and allowed me to pour even more into the people and places I love.
Offline, a significant amount of my time and energy goes toward grassroots community organizing, more specifically to food justice efforts in South Central. Learning to grow your own food is another form of liberation. I am especially passionate about making urban horticulture resources more accessible to Black, trans, queer, and neurodiverse folks like myself. While I work toward getting the necessary certifications to teach, I share this love of gardening through youtube videos x . I've also started taking on urban landscape architecture work, to generate some form of income as an immunocompromised individual with limited job options. Being able to do this work gives me a profound sense of purpose and joy. No person should have to prove whether they are deserving of having their basic needs met, but I share these things with you to say: any investments made toward the wellbeing of a Black trans person benefits more than just that individual. Safety and stability enable us to focus on the greater work we feel called to do.
Please help me secure funds for long-term housing and reliable transportation so that I may continue to live and serve my community with less strain on my physical and mental health. The money from this fund will go toward my housing, moving expenses, and transportation. Again, I will have to relocate sooner than expected so my main priority is to find affordable housing. Even if I were to only reach a fraction of this goal, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for your support. Please continue to share this fund and donate if you have the means to do so! I am also accepting donations via venmo (@kennam) , cash app ($kennedym) , and paypal (paypal.me/kennarn). Thank you all in advance
