Coming from the South Bronx as a high school senior, times are tough struggling through this pandemic. With money coming in slim and high schools plans being postponed, it has become rather strenuous to navigate through the college decision process, remote learning and helping taking care of my 6 younger siblings. I strive to be better not only for my family, but for myself and my community.  I have been accepted into more than 10 institutions, and I am happy to announce that I will be attending St. John’s University. Due to certain circumstances regarding the COVID19 pandemic, it’s been difficult for my family and I since there isn’t a main source of income coming in. My parents and I are unemployed and trying to adapt to the new normal. Although I am honored to have been accepted into an excellent school, I don’t have the funds to pay my enrollment deposit fees and additional expenses. Although these are trying times for everyone, I hope and pray for the best outcome for me and my family. Being a first generation from immigrant parents and graduate of high school going to college is a huge accomplishment in my book because as a black Muslim young woman, I made it this far. I have been involved in so many leadership opportunities in community activism and social injustice issues such as racial profiling, mass imprisonment, police brutality, etc. i have co-founded a workshop called We Got it From Here: The Black Lives Matter Youth Coalition my freshman year at high school. This is a workshop that showcases how young people at my school dedicated themselves in organizing our first annual black lives matter march. I have spoken at many conferences and presented at Lehman college, Columbia University, the Schomburg Center in Harlem, etc. Striving for minority communities to gain the recognition and the solitude and justice they deserve is all apart the work I want to continue to do for my community and my people. Any amount of donations would be kindly appreciated!

Thank you,

Best Regards,
