Evan helps The Goat Girl Farm recover from Tornado

The story below was written by my son, with a little help from his current school. The Goat Girl Farm has has made an incredible impact on his life and he is determined to help them through this time of need. All donations go to The Goat Girl Farm.

My name is Evan and I am 12 years old. When I moved here last year, I was placed in a school that was not a good fit for me. They didn’t understand what I needed, my issues, and autism. They let people smoke weed on the bus without punishment. They thought the way to calm someone down was to tackle them and throw them into a seclusion room, which they did to me many times. I would be in there for hours at a time without using the bathroom; without being able to do anything. They would take your shoes and sweatshirt and you weren’t able to talk to anyone.

At that time, I was feeling depressed and wanted to harm myself. But, my mom found The Goat Girl Farm, a non-profit rescue. When I first went, we pulled up and they were trying to get the baby goats a little bit calmer around humans. No one could get near Georgette without her yelling and crying. I went in and sat down and waited. She came to me and let me pet her. She jumped on my lap. That is when the Goat Girls decided to let me keep coming back. One of the working dogs even treats me like his own! They have taught me about different animals and how to care for them. I learned how to cure pink eye, vaccinate, and deliver a baby goat. I learned about natural de-wormers and how to make the de-wormers. They taught me about how the farm is a business and how to run a farm. They invited me to Chickenstock with them (like a “Woodstock” but geared towards animals and supplies). I helped sell a couple of goats to a nice goat home. After visiting the goat farm, I always feel a lot calmer and happier, and more relaxed. The goat farm has been a very important part of my life.

About a month ago a tornado came through and bounced around their property. It knocked a big tree down on their house and in the pasture. They lost all but one of the dog houses that the goats sleep in and jump and play on. My family and I went out there to help clean up the yard and help collect some of their things that went into the pasture behind their house.

Since the tree fell on their house, they have been stuck in a motel. They have to go back and forth from the farm and motel to take care of the goats and other animals, and still go to work.

Here is a little more about what happened: "Our farm is located in Stanly County NC and on February 6 we suffered extensive damage due to tornadoes that ripped thru the county. 2 trees fell in our pastures and 1 fell thru our house. Our daughter lost everything and so did our goats. We have a barn but several of our goats sleep in dog houses because we like to call it a high school click issue but it works for them. The 2 trees that fell in the pasture took out 2 dog houses and both had goats in them. We lost 4 goats and 5 kids. We were needless to say devastated. How much worse could it get we thought, until our house tested positive for Asbestos. Insurance is not covering it. We are stuck in a room with goats on land that we rent and no where to go."
