To the many friends, supporters, admirers of Joaquin G. Avila, we invite you on this special journey to assist our dear friend and mentor.
The name Joaquin Avila is almost synonymous with voting rights. The Harvard-educated attorney who made a career out of voting rights advocacy and led the crusade toward changing local election system from at-large to district elections empowering the Latino vote after decades of disenfranchisement., (Salinas Californian)
In 2010, Joaquin suffered a stroke which left his left side paralyzed, and caused his crusade on district election to halt to a standstill for some time. He is recuperating and doing very little travel due to his medical condition. Recently while he paid a visit to the Monterey area, many friends and supporters came out to greet this dear friend whose help afforded many Latinos to be elected to office. As we gathered to visit and reminice with Joaquin, some of us personally came to the conclusion that financial assistance is extremely needed for Joaquin to continue his therapy and medical expenses. As humble as he is, he will not ask for assistance from anyone, his desire is to get well and again begin his work in representation of our communities and with that in mind, we want to help him accomplish this and more. We hope that you personally will contribute and invite others to make a contribution toward his medical expenses which are sorely needed.
