Goalies Matter Campaign

I'm reaching out to you to ask for your support of a cause that is very special to me and close to my heart. I am a lacrosse Goalie Coach and  I am looking to raise funds that will help fund the production of a special t-shirt supporting Mental Health Awareness and website development.  Supporting this valuable cause will let ALL goalies know they are never alone in this battle., because Goalies Matter!!!

As we ALL know,  (lacrosse) goalies are a special breed of individuals who, at times, will struggle with the mental pressure of their position.  Some days everyone loves the goalie and they are the heroes of the field. More often, however, the goalie gets blamed for losing games, missing easy shots, not clearing well enough, and is often treated as separate and “different” from the rest of the team.  This kind of pressure weighs heavily on goaltenders across genders, and their mental health can take a major hit - especially as they are navigating through their already tumultuous youth and teenage years. Every day I am approached through email, texts, and phone calls about how goalies are mentally drained from the drama and pressures they endure from their teammates and peers in school.  Some kids struggle so much that they turn to extreme measures to get attention - and not in a positive way. This is a huge burden for these young athletes to bear; We (goalie coaches) are the ones who can empathize with them and the obstacles they face; We are the ones who can provide them a safe place to come for help, among other professional resources.

CALL TO ACTION – I would like to ask that you join me in promoting Mental Health Awareness and help ALL goalies, not just in lacrosse,  who are struggling with mental health issues.  I am producing a Mental Health Awareness shirt that I will be selling and distributing during my goalie camp this summer and then later to the American public.  This shirt will not only show our support as Goalie Coaches but also you'll be helping others who suffer from mental illnesses.   It will tell our goalies that we (as coaches) care about them and ARE HERE for them as well.  If we can prevent the loss of one goalie because they are willing to turn to us for help, we will have succeeded. Our likelihood of success is high if we all STAND TOGETHER.

PROCEEDS – a percentage of the proceeds will be donated to a Mental Health charity that is near and dear to my heart as well, Mission 22, which supports military veterans who suffer from PTSD.  Much like the military, goalies are a big part of the team, without them, the team weakens. Goalies every day, much like our soldiers, face unique challenges and stress of making the right decision in a split second, and that decision can impact all those around them.

Deadline date of donations to produce the Shirt will end July 2nd, however this campaign will remain open until the Target goal has been reached.  Veterans need love too.
