Never in a million years did I think I’d be writing this for my best friend. The healthiest person I know. The one who keeps me laughing. The one who lives the most passionate life. But here is Sydney's story...On 12/3 Sydney went to the ER with a lower GI bleed and over the next 24 hours lost 8 units of blood (your body has around ten for reference).
In order to find the source of the bleed they kept her in the ICU overnight to prep her for a colonoscopy. While waiting she went into shock and she was losing blood faster than they could put it back in. They immediately intubated her and took her back for an emergent colonoscopy. Results of this procedure showed the bleeding was coming from a mass on her colon. They were able to stop the bleeding and later that night she had another procedure to remove part of her colon and she began to turn a corner over the next few days. A few days later she started to decline again and was taken back for another emergency surgery to address complications from the first surgery. This started the clock all over again in her recovery.
In the mean time, the results of the pathology report determined that she has stage 3 cancer and that it spread to her lymph nodes. Chemo and radiation will need to start immediately following her recovery from surgery.
On day 14 she was allowed to eat for the first time since being admitted and FINALLY got to come home on day 15.
In all this we have to count our blessings and can’t ignore God’s protection. By his grace alone, Sydney was already at the hospital for work & He’s continued to answer our prayers since. On behalf of Sydney and her family, we want to say THANK YOU to everyone that said a prayer for Sydney and hope that you will continue to pray for her in her long journey ahead.
With all that said, we want to ask that if you find it in your heart to want to help with the many hospital bills coming her way and other unknown expenses she can't even comprehend at this time, we invite you to do so here. If all you can give is prayer, it would be GREATLY appreciated.
