Our sweet Lo <3

Lourdess is a 4 year-old-girl with Cerebral Palsy. She was diagnosed at 2 months old. Since that day she has received a myriad of therapies including physical, occupational, speech, feeding and recreational. She works hard to keep up with her peers. Lourdess is currently not walking however she is taking all the necessary steps to getting up on her feet. From diet to therapy to medicine we are committed to doing whatever it takes to help her reach her true independence. Recently Lourdess had her first round of botox injections to help loosen the tightness she experiences as a result of CP  in her feet in ankles. During this process she has also been in cast or received serial casting ( the process of applying and removing a series of lightweight, fiberglass casts on an arm or leg. Every 1 to 2 weeks, the angle of the cast is changed to slightly stretch the muscles and move the joint a little closer to the correct position) As you can imagine this can be quite restrictive, hot and smelly LOL. These cast are placed by a physical therapist every week until she has reached her goal in positioning. This is something that she is prescribed multiple times a year.

During our last session the therapist mentioned that she thought Lo would be a good candidate for a "tryke" an adaptive tricycles for children & others who are otherwise unable to ride a regular bike. As you can imagine I jumped with excitement at the idea of our baby being able to enjoy the summer on an actual bike. I wanted to know more. The tricycles are custom built to fit each rider,  they have rotating peddles and handle bars (great for building strength) a guided handle is attached so that a parent or others can steer the rider in the right and safe direction. Sounds great right? Something like that must cost a fortune? The answer is yes and no. We did complete paper work to get on list to have one gifted to us. However the list is a year long and we wont be considered until May-December 2020. Unless someone turns in a tricycle that fits Lourdess before then. We are not picky but even then the "tryke" may not fit her properly. I asked the therapist what would be the cost and turnaround time to custom build one for Lo? A new tryke would only take about 2 weeks to a month and would cost on average $500-1000. There are 49 children on the list, Lo will probably be placed somewhere over the 50 mark.

As we approach Spring I'm visualizing my baby girl on a tryke by summer. She deserves to enjoy nature and have something to motivate her mobility.  I decided this would be an awesome platform to start.  We don't ask for help much, in this case we thought this would be the perfect time. Making a difference in a kids life is truly the best investment, as they are our future.

I would love for every kid on the list to have a tryke this year!

I set a goal of $2000, if reached we can get one and give one!

Any contribution will be helpful, useful and greatly appreciated.

If you are looking to give, interested in non profits for children, or have a special place in your heart for special kids. Please consider donating to Lourdess' fund for a custom adaptive tricycle.
