GO for MO!

Hi everyone! As some of you may know, my mother, Melinda Beckenhauer-Claiborne, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma-Astrocytoma (Brain Cancer) as of March 2017, however, this is not her first encounter with this particular type of tumor. She had a brain surgery in March to remove as much of the tumor as possible. This is now her third brain surgery in 8 years. The medical team immediately started her on a very hopeful clinical trial with an incredible success rate. Unfortunately, the treatment did not work for my mother's condition, and she began to get worse. At this point, with another look at a new MRI, the medical team at UAB told our family that my mom had a less than 30% chance of living through the next two years. They immediately began her on two forms of chemotherapy treatments - one pill form, and one intravenous form. The combination of the chemotherapies has reduced the tumor in size, but has greatly deteriorated her body. She now has no motor ability of the right side of her body, and has increasing edemas in her right leg/foot, her stomach, and her face/neck. Her abilities to speak, comprehend, and even walk are steadily decreasing. Because of these inabilities, it is getting increasingly difficult for my mom to live a regular day-to-day life. This is the reason why this page is being created. My mom needs funding for modifications to the house in order to assist her in everyday activities. Also, she needs a much safer way to go up and down stairs. Unfortunately she took a fall recently. It is becoming difficult to ensure her safety. Numerous people have asked how they can help in our time of need. Honestly, your donations are the best way to help out our family right now. There are a plethora of other things that my mother needs to live a safe, healthy life while the chemo runs through her system, but the items I have listed are most prevalent. These funds will also go towards travel funds as she is very far away from all family members. Most of our family is in Nevada and Hawaii, and Kyle (my 16yo brother) is currently living in Nevada to increase chances for academic and athletic success.
