Service Trip to Uganda

Four years ago, Madeline, Elizabeth and I became familiar with HEED Uganda - an Edmonds based charity that supports a remote village in central Uganda. In 2014 my niece Sophie and her friends embarked on a summer service project that raised $3,000 for HEED. In 4 years they have raised over $15,000 to fund projects in the village.
Recently I learned the full story of how HEED came to be. It is a remarkable story of great faith and even greater love. With the encouragement of HEED's founder, Julie Secrist, Madeline, Elizabeth and I will be traveling to Uganda in April 2018 with my sister Rachel, my niece Sophie and others.
While we are in Uganda each of us will be assigned a role that works towards the mission of empowerement. I will be working in the secondary school with the teachers.

The only downside to our travel plans is the significant cost of having 3 of us go. HEED relies solely on the donations of individuals and community organizations like rotary clubs. There are no funds to assist people with their travel plans, even if we are traveling to help in Uganda. Just the vaccinations in order to travel cost $1000, which was quite a shock! Despite the cost, we felt we could not pass up the opportunity to go together with Rachel and Sophie.
In addition to airfare and lodging costs, we will be paying for all of our expenses while in the village so as not to burden the community while we are there. We plan to use any funds raised here to offset our costs. IF we exceed our goal additional funds will be donated directly to HEED.
