Reaching the Hip-Hop Generation

Hip-Hop, the voice of a generation. The Church, the carries of hope in Jesus Christ. What if the church could reach the hip-hop generation? Speak their language? Make their future better? Now, WE CAN!
2014 opened up a lot of doors for me to be involved in some exciting outreach work. One of these opportunities is being involved in S.L.A.P. Battles (short for Showing Love Applying Pressure). This is an urban ministry outreach which uses the language of hip-hop, specifically rap battles, to present the message of Jesus Christ and to show that His Power is relevant and able to do great works for this generation of youth and young adults. S.L.A.P. present issues that youth/young adults deal with in a relevant manner and provides the solution in the virtues of Christ.
I have been selected to be the President of S.L.A.P. Battles Pittsburgh. In this role, I will be responsible for organizing outreach events, concerts, and teaching and training other youth and young adults to do the work of outreach through this format. The concerts will not only provide a Christ centered entertainment alternative for our youth, but it will also provide a forum to bring together various ministries throughout the city of Pittsburgh to build unity and help us all achieve the goals God has given us. Winning the youth and youth adults of Pittsburgh is a team sport, and I’m excited to be part of this team.
In order to throw the events we are planning, we need to raise a minimum of $6,500.00 to fund our first event. Beyond that, our goal would be to raise $13,000.00 to fund an additional event, along with the possibility of a 3PFD Album..A donation of $25 is recommended; however, any amount is welcome and I will be thankful for it.
