Help Heather Help Haiti

Hello to those who have made it to this page; regardless if you're classmates, coworkers, friends, family or you just so happened to stumble along this page; Thank you!

My name is Heather and I am in my last semester of nursing school (I'm the brunette in the picture wearing the white sleeve). I was 1 out of 20 students carefully selected (nationally) to be apart of this once in a life time global health trip opportunity for my school that will take place in January of 2018 (It will be a 2 week trip, exact dates are to be determined). I will be taking this trip as part of my Community Health Class where I will have the chance to care for approximately 150 people each day in Rural and Urban areas of Haiti.

Haiti is still recovering from the January 12, 2010 7.0 earthquake that devastated the nation and most recently, Hurricane Matthew October 2016 as well as sustaining damage in the North from Hurricane Irma in 2017. Haiti is currently ranked 1 of 20 of the poorest countries in the world which means that access to regular healthcare is not possible.

Some of the expected care we will be providing includes but is not limited to:
• Hypertension
• Malnutrition – adult and children
• Malaria, dengue, zika
• Worm Infestation (intestinal and/or skin manifestation)
• Upper Respiratory Infections, Tuberculosis
• GI problems
• Eye problems
• Dehydration
• Various Skin lesions/infections/rashes‐Scabies/lice, fleabites, Impetigo
• Low Back Pain, Headaches, Dental Carries/Abscesses
• HIV/AIDS
• Vaginal infections

I am incredibly lucky to have been selected to provide this care and gain this experience however I can't do this alone. I am asking for the help of everyone to donate to my trip, I am beyond grateful for any amount or even sharing this among your friends and family! My goal of 3,500 will be used for:
1. Air Transportation from any US city serviced by the selected airline from the U.S. to PAP, Haiti and return, including air taxes.
2. All Ground Transportation in Haiti associated with clinical and team events.
3. Two meals a day will be provided by our hosts while we are in Haiti. These are family style meals we share as a group and are planned and allotted as part of the cost of the experience.
4. Transportation between PAP and Leogane.
5. Travel Insurance.
6. Translator Services.
7. Cultural experience.
8. Water.
9. Vaccinations required prior to leaving the country
10. Cost of passport
As well as any other unexpected necessities.

However, I must submit my first payment of $1,250 by October 27th.

I can't express enough how excited, blessed, and thankful I am for this opportunity. I hope this is something you all will consider.

Thank you all for your continuous support!
