hello, I am Pharell Evenor – from Clontarf and I am a 5th Year Student in Clongowes

Wood College SJ.

I am very happy to have been chosen to take part in the Clongowes Wood College African Immersion Experience in 2026. which will take place in Nairobi, Kenya from 19th March to 3rd April 2026.

As a group, we will spend our days within the Jesuit parish of St. Joseph the Worker which is in Kangemi - a very poor part of the Kenyan capital Nairobi.We will work and learn a range of technical skills alongside Kenyan secondary school students from St. Joseph’s Technical Secondary School there.

St. Joseph’s was established by the Kenyan Jesuits. It provides young people from this poor part of the city with strong technical skills as part of their secondary school education. As poverty there is high, this helps to ensure they have skills to earn an income once they havecompleted school.

I am looking forward to meeting the students and getting to know them

while working and developing new skills together in areas like carpentry, tailoring and

hairdressing. Hopefully we will make a good contribution to the local community too.

The Jesuit ethos encourages and supports young people to use our heads, hearts and hands in becoming the best we can be, ‘persons for others’ and citizen of the world. This is a common focus of the Jesuits, including in all their schools all over the world.

Our Families will bear the cost of our travel and accommodation, but we also want to raisesome money to contribute to the work of the Jesuits supporting people in need in Kangemi, and in many other places in Eastern Africa.

I would really appreciate your generous help to enable me to do this. No amount is ever too small, and no amount is ever too big! Whatever you can contribute will be really appreciated. I will personally acknowledge any donation you make. I am looking forward to learning more about all of the work of the Jesuits in Eastern Africa during our time in Kenya.
