Why Fund a Mission Trip?
The healthcare system in the US has become more disconnected with much less emphasis on the human connection that is necessary for great care and great outcomes. Also with human connection, people feeling like someone cares about them.
As it is currently, practitioners are forced to focus on productivity over human connectedness, and the results are dissatisfaction with healthcare encounters and provider burnout.
The solution I have found is to join in medical mission work. Both practitioners and students can do this. This gives the experience of compassionate service, and the authentic connection to offer and be offered to, which decreases burnout and improves healthcare.
It also helps to train NP students how to be more effectively connected to their patients. This can last a lifetime and have an impact on the students these DNP's train in their future practice.
The problem is that not everyone can afford to do this.
Last year only 4 out of 36 students applied for 8 slots to participate in the mission trip. The purpose of this project is to fund any Elms DNP student, regardless of income, to go on this medical mission with 2 certified NP mentors. In the long run, I envision a foundation that will fund students from any school to go on a mission trip.
This is how this project works….
You have been given an opportunity to choose to participate to donate $34 (more is accepted as well).
Every donation of $34 dollars will be part of a large group of the same contribution amount- for a goal of $9552.00.
This will include:
- r/t airfare for each of 8 participants( 2 are certified NP mentors),
- $42 dollars a day room and board in simple accommodations at a retreat house,
- a van with driver, including gas, to get to our clinics over 7 days.
Thank you for your interest and support of this project for either someone you care about or for just the idea of increasing human connection in healthcare!
If you give your email to us, you will be sent update links on trip preparation as well as a post trip update! Thank you for your interest and your support.
Your participation creates this possibility- so from the bottom of my heart, thank you!
