Glen's Eagle Scout Project - Greenhouse for GBMS
Hello. My name is Glen Diamond.
I am a Boy Scout with Troop 129 in Green Brook, NJ. Our troop meets weekly at the Green Brook Middle School (GBMS), which is where I went to middle school until 2014. I have been involved in Scouting since the third grade, and I am currently a Life Scout working towards achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
One of the requirements to earn the rank of Eagle Scout is to demonstrate skills of management and leadership by performing a service project that will benefit the community.
For my service project, I plan to construct a greenhouse in one of the courtyards of our middle school. The greenhouse would give the teachers and students an additional place for learning activities, with hands-on experience to grow flowers and plants, and to learn about environment science.
To complete this project, I will need to raise nearly $2,000. The kit for the 12’ x 8’ greenhouse I plan to purchase costs around $1,500, and I will need $500 more for additional expenses like concrete and tools.
If all goes well, with help from others in the troop, I hope to have the greenhouse completed and in use by the springtime of 2018.
I would very much appreciate any monetary contribution you can make towards this greenhouse project. Any amount that you could contribute whether large or small, would be a great help towards paying for the cost of materials for this project. If I’m lucky enough to raise funds beyond the cost of the construction project, any excess money will be given to the project beneficiary (GBMS) to go towards supplies needed to operate the greenhouse.
