My father, Glenn Hangaard (Coach Hangaard to some), has been tackling Stage 4 Lymphoma Throat Cancer and many have asked how they can help. Nine weeks of chemotherapy and six weeks of radiation have put us on an emotional rollercoaster and our parents are feeling the financial strain. Dad hasn’t worked with those daily trips from Hankinson to Fargo (North Dakota) and now needs to heal and get back some strength. So we are sharing his story and asking that you help us Get Glenn to a Goal of $8000.
Glenn’s Cancer Discovery
On Saturday, July 29th, 2017, I woke up and noticed a lump on my neck. I thought it was strep throat because strep was going around town and my wife, Bonnie, does daycare. Kids love sharing stuff like that! But something wasn’t quite right.
I went into the walk-in clinic on Monday and the doctor was concerned just looking at it, with a CAT scan that very day. On Thursday, I met with the neck specialist that took biopsies and they came back positive as cancer of the tonsil and it had already spread to the lymph nodes. Obviously, I was devastated with the ‘C” word and being told by the specialists that I have stage 4 Lymphoma Throat Cancer. We met with the chemo and radiation oncologists right away and set up our game plan to start attacking and killing this cancer.
It is startling to realize how many people share commonalities with my dad’s story. A high-deductible insurance is only one small part of the medical expenses. The daily trips to the Roger Maris Cancer Center are over, but the trips continue as dad seeks strength through infusions and healing of his throat so that he can eat once again. With his weakened condition, he had the chills and they have encountered extra expenses with heating the house (winter in North Dakota!). Yes, the expenses just don’t seem to end.
