Great news! After 15 years of having Destination Imagination at Glengary Elementary, we have our first team headed to Global Finals ! They earned a spot after placing 4th at the State Tournament on April 16, 2016at CMU! This is a huge opportunity for my DI students, as they will be able to join 8,000 students from around the United States and 30 countries to compete and celebrate creativity, STEM, and community service in Knoxville, Tennessee May 25-28, 2016.
These girls have spent their time week by week since the fall working on their community outreach project and skit. The outreach project they came up with and implemented was Sing for Service, which allowed them to sing to residents at nursing homes around the local area. They did an amazing job lifting the voices and hearts of residents! The biggest impact was when a resident, who hadn't spoken in months, started singing along wtih the girls, bringing much happiness to her daughter who was also there.
Along with this great opportunity, there also comes a great cost. It will cost around $1,000 per team member to attend the Global Finals, including registration, room and board, travel, and other expenses. This does not include the expenses for the family members traveling with them, so I am trying to do as much as I can to help offset costs. The team will be doing a few fundraisers here at Glengary Elementary; however, we are at a crunch for time, as registration fees are due by May 1.
We are so excited and looking forward to this opportunity, but we also know this is a financial burden on the families. If you are able to donate any amount to help our team celebrate their creativity and represent Team Michigan at Global Finals, we would be very appreciative!
