As you may know "Coach" passed away unexpectedly on May 7 due to complications from knee surgery. A much loved member of the Four Seasons family, he was 78. Let us tell you a little more about Coach . . .

Glen was born in Bridgeport, CT, and was a graduate of the University of Bridgeport, obtaining both his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees and certification in Elementary Education. For the next 20 years, Glen taught in the Bridgeport, Stratford, and Fairfield Public Schools, as well as tutoring children of all levels.

In 1984 Glen switched gears and became a full time Tennis Professional working with many professional clubs. He was Director of Tennis for Fairfield County, Town of Wilton, Parks and Recreations Boys JV Tennis Coach, Wilton High School, Town of Westport, Tennis Director, Fairfield Tennis Club, and Marcy's Tennis Academy.

"I stopped being a teacher to become a full-time tennis pro, but in many ways the techniques are the same," said Englander in a 2014 Norwalk Hour spotlight article. "I'm a firm believer in teaching people the fundamentals. Sticking with the fundamentals in tennis is very effective, even the top pros have coaches to remind them of the basics."

In 1996 he joined the staff at Four Seasons Racquet Club in Wilton, where he spent so many wonderful years. One of Glen's favorite aspects of tennis was seeing two or three generations together on the court. "When I see three generations on the court at the same time, it's great. What other sport can multiple generations play at the same time?!"

A 35-year career as a tennis teaching professional, Glen achieved many accomplishments in the sport he so much loved. He received recognition for exceeding expectations by providing personal time to coach and mentor students after hours, coached students that achieved a skill level allowing them to play college varsity tennis.

Glen is survived by his wife Liz (Lipton) of 41 years, whom he cherished so much. He was predeceased by his siblings, Linda Appel, Alan and Kent Englander, and his in-laws, Marcia and George Lipton of Fairfield.

We thank all of you in advance who wish to donate to help Liz out during this difficult time.
