Gizmo Gang to FLL World Championship

Our Gears In Motion 4-H robotics club, FIRST Lego League (FLL) Gizmo Gang team, from Omaha, NE, earned top honors at the Nebraska State Championship on February 26, 2022. We are honored to represent our state at the 3 day FIRST World Championship in Houston, TX in April where they will be competing with teams from around the world.

The team consists of 4 middle school youth, ages 12 - 14, who have been competing in FLL together for the past three years. FIRST Lego League is an amazing program that encourages youth in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) exploration in a sporty atmosphere. Each year, the FLL teams are invited to investigate a world challenge, identify problems, and formulate innovative solutions.

This year’s problem was to improve the transportation of cargo. The Gizmo Gang chose to reduce the number of trucks on the road, which reduces carbon dioxide emissions by delivering laundry detergent to stores in bulk totes. Their prototype dispenser pumps the detergent from the tote to refillable jugs the consumer brings back to the store.

The Gizmo Gang team is thrilled to compete beyond the State competition and ready to embark upon this World competition journey. This journey, however comes with escalating expenses. We need your assistance with lodging, transportation, and improvements to their dispenser. Any money that is left over will be used for STEM outreach.
