A Place of Provision

Donation protected

Have you ever been in a place in your life where you need a little help? I have. I was a single mom with two sons, 5 and 8 years old, working full time, but my paycheck did not come close to covering our needs. My boys and I were living with my widowed mother, who without her, we would have been on the streets. I did not bring home enough to support my little family, but I made too much to qualify for government help. Once a month on Saturday morning I would take my laundry basket to the local food pantry and get whatever they would put in my basket. I followed along in the line of many others with their laundry baskets and boxes past tables, stopping just long enough for a volunteer to place some food item in my basket. I appreciated that food. But the experience was a degrading one. I felt like a failure.

Everyone at sometime in their lives needs help, and that help should not come with any earning restrictions or shame. That's why we are here. We are Giving to the Nations, a nonprofit organization devoted to advancing the lives of others, and that is exactly what we are going to do through our food pantry/community outreach site. We are raising money to make this once thriving neighborhood root beer and burger stand, a community gathering place many years ago, a community gathering place once again, but this time around, the food is free. And there will be so much more! We are remaking this now neighborhood eyesore into "A Place of Provision." A place where if you need help, you will get help, no restrictions. Do you need food? Do you need diapers, shampoo, deodorant? School supplies? Free eye exams and glasses? What to learn how to eat healthy? Come to our "Place of Provision."

In order to open our doors we need to restore our building. That is why we are reaching out to you. Will you help us help others? Your giving will allow us to replace the old electrical wiring and fixtures inside and out; purchase two new furnaces (the one that is working we have been told will not last through this winter); replace the rusted out water heater; replace the broken windows that are now all boarded up; and replace the parking lot! We have many projects, but none are too daunting because we have you!

Thank you for helping us to make this truly "A Place of Provision."

If you are in the neighborhood, stop by at 1701 12th Street, Racine WI, say "Hello," see our progress or jump in and help.

You make a difference!
