GIVING-20

Our world has been turned upside down by a virus that is unrelenting, indiscriminate, and deadly. COVID-19.

We all know the name. Millions have contracted this virus, but every single one of us has been impacted – emotionally, financially, or otherwise – by the effects of the virus and lockdowns.

I've been thinking for some time if there was a way I can help stop the effects of the lockdowns started by COVID-19.

Then, it came to me. Stop COVID-19 – and epidemic of disease – and start GIVING-20 – an epidemic of giving. 

Why not start an epidemic of giving?

The goal of GIVING-20 is to inject hope, joy, and life into the communities around us by giving $20 to those in need. By contributing to this GoFundMe, you will be counteracting the virus with the contagious act of giving.

Please join the GIVING-20 movement in these ways!

1. Donate to this GoFundMe page and the money will be given on your behalf to individuals financially suffering because of the pandemic...starting in Kentucky and now in Kansas and Ohio (yay!) and eventually in other states as this movement grows.

2. When you are checking out at a store, get $20 cash back, and leave it in the machine for another person to pick up

3. If you are at a checkout counter, request $20 cash back and let the cashier keep it

4. Anonymously give $20 to someone you see that looks like they could use some hope, joy, and life (i.e. wear a mask :)

The effects of giving are innumerable, but its just as good for the giver as for the receiver.

GoFundMe asked me to answer these questions about this fundraiser:

1. Who you are and where you’re from

I'm Joe Moss and I'm from Lexington, KY.

2. Your relationship or contact to the parties you're raising funds for

I'm raising funds for people in the United States that need help, which in a way, is all of us!  We all could use inspiration, love, hope, and the joy that comes from giving!  But specifically, I'm raising funds for people that have lost their jobs, are struggling to pay their bills, are not able to pay their rent, don't have money for food...

3. How the funds will be spent (be as specific as possible)

As of 11/2/2020, $2105 has been donated and spent/given in the following ways:
-$125.87 has been spent on 1000 fliers and 1000 business cards to be passed out (500 of the fliers were donated)
-$70 was spent on the giving-20.live and giving-20.community websites
-$1880 has been given
-$0 has been prepped to be given out tomorrow (a $20 bill placed in an envelope with one of the fliers)
-the remaining $29.13 will be prepped for giving tomorrow to be given out the following day

4. Your withdrawal plan to get the funds from the fundraiser to the person that they're intended for

At this time, I am withdrawing the donations from my account at ATMs and then distributing them from there.  If this fundraiser grows, I will set up a 501c3 and run everything through it.

This is the first major fundraiser I've done, so I'm learning as I go!
