Jessica and Cody Ray were ecstatic when they learned that Jessica was pregnant, and then they learned they would have not one but TWO babies coming! At their 32 week ultrasound they learned baby boy would be born with a life threatening complications called Transposition of the Great Arteries. What this means is the pulmonary artery and aorta are switched. Jessica was able to provide all necessary oxygen during pregnancy, however after delivery baby boy will require intubation and a life saving heart surgery.
On December 16th, after many doctor appointments, ultrasounds, non-stress tests, waiting, excitement, worries, and an urgent Caesarian section, Booker and Mara Ray were born!!!
On December 23, 2020 Brave little Booker went into the care of the cardio thoracic surgery team. Booker tolerated the surgery like champ. Poor baby had already been through so much, a blood clot in his leg, collapsed lung, and now fresh out of surgery a stitch started to bleed causing no room for his heart to pump. Booker endured another surgery, and once again pulled through like a lil champ.
December 25, the best Christmas gift, Booker was able to tolerate his breathing to be removed! And Santa was able to visit! Booker has a long road of recovery ahead of him. Jessica and Cody are traveling from their home in Indiana to Chicago as much as they can.
Jessica has dedicated her life caring for people as a mom, nurse, mentor, and an emergency room Rn. She and Cody are such hard workers who graciously give to others and it would be such an honor to help this beautiful family during their time of health and healing. Please consider ANY donation to show our love and support to them during this time.
