Giving My Kids a Good Life

The past three years have been very financially challenging. I left the banking world because the work environment caused me to feel emotionally and mentally unhealthy. Also at this time, I decided to pursue my true passion of writing novels. I found paid work in-between, but it was always just enough to cover food and bills for that week. I started a couple of businesses during this time, but they have not reached the point yet where they are bringing in a steady income, if any.

I’ve been looking for part-time, remote positions, but due to COVID and all the changes it’s brought about, I have not found one that will allow the flexibility I need to still be available to take my kids to school and be there for them in the evening to prepare dinner and help them with homework. And since I am the primary caregiver for my children, with no way to pay for daycare and no one who can help on a daily basis, finding work that allows me to be flexible is highly important because my kids are still too young to stay home alone or get to school on their own.

I admit that going back to a day job is not my dream—finding success as an author is. And through that success, showing my girls that they can fulfill any dream they have if they simply believe and never give up.

I’m asking for your help for my girls, who are now 6 and 10 (ages 3 and 6 in the photo above). I want to give them a good opportunity at life before they get any older. It hasn’t been easy to tell them “no” for little asks like wanting to grab something to eat while we’re out or hoping that soon they will be able to join in an extracurricular activity. The guilt I feel sometimes is overwhelming.

While the money from this fundraiser will also change my life, it isn’t about me. I’m doing this for my children, who I love more than anything, and want to give them a chance to explore their passions. If I’ve learned one thing in my life experience, it’s that finding a job to pay the bills can be good, but it will never fulfill you. I want to give my girls a stronger chance to pursue what they love now so when they get older, they can follow the path of their passions and find success. The money from this fundraiser will change everything for us.

Here is my plan to use the money from this fundraiser:

-The first $500 will allow each daughter to choose an activity they want to enroll in and stay with for a while to grow their talents and passions.

-The rest I am investing to start a savings account for them.

Natalie, who is 6 years old, loves to dance and draw. She’s been asking for quite some time to take a dance class. Some studios are opening again. Those that aren’t open offer online classes.

Alexis, 10 years old, wants to become a master gymnast. She also enjoys using her mind to solve puzzles, whether actual puzzles or the puzzles that life presents us.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to say yes to either of them around these desires because the money we get from their dad is just enough to cover food and basic expenses. And being the one who cares for my girls 100%, I really feel burdened at times when I have to keep telling them no. It’s a heavy feeling, and one I no longer want to feel.

Without this money, we will continue on this path for much longer than I would like. I don’t want to keep saying no to their dreams. It hurts and I don’t want to hurt them any longer because I don’t have a way to invest in their dreams.

This is why the sooner we have fulfilled our goal, the better. Once we have reached our goal, I can start building for their future.

I understand I'm not the only one in a situation like this, especially now with the state of the world. But I do know, that as soon as I am able to, I will return this favor to others like me and my girls who need help. <3

As I continue to look for a job that works for me while allowing me to still be there for my girls, and as I continue to grow my businesses and write my books, this money will allow the start of a good life for my children. My business are 1) My authorship 2) Turtle Sea Books (self-publishing for children’s book authors).

I’m also open to any financial advice or talking more about my story and how you can help in replacement of a donation. <3

I am so grateful for your time and help with this. You have no idea how much difference this will make for me as a mother, and more importantly, for my girls.
