My name is Brittany Hawkins, many of you know my mom through the community of working at Titus Elementary for 14 years. I set this up privately in hopes to raise money for all my moms medical expenses during this difficult holiday season.
"Mama Hawk" or "Granny Franny" or as most of you know her "Fran" is the most loving and giving woman I know. During this difficult time of year I am trying to pick her back up after being in and out of the hospital since Thanksgiving. It is now my turn to help her at the time she needs us the most.
On Thanksgiving Eve my mom went to Doylestown Emergency room with severe spasams in her ribcage. It was so unbearable she would be bent over in pain and tears for hours. The first time around we found out she had Pneumonia in her lungs, positive blood cultures for Strep Mitis, Iron deficiency anemia, and leukocytosis. We spent Thanksgiving in the hospital with friends and family bringing us plates of yummy food. Even under the painful circumstances, my mom still found a reason to smile and be thankful. After days of testing and Iron infusions, my mom began getting her spirit back. That Sunday they finally let her come home and she was on strict orders to stay out of work for the week, rest, and be very easy on herself.
A week had gone by and some days were better than others, but my mom still didn't look herself. The next Sunday going into Monday around 4am my mom again woke up in tears from the pain in her left chest. My stepdad Tad immediately said "we are going back." Again, my mom was taken to Doylestown Emergency Room and this time the diagnosis had changed. They began looking at her heart at which they believed they saw a blood clot. She again was admitted into the hospital where they could do more testing to find out what the little dark mark was on the x-rays by her heart. My mom has what they call a heart murmur (small hole in her heart from birth). This then led to the finding of Patent Ductus Arteriosus which is a serious infection within her blood stream. She speant another 4 days in the hospital again getting MRI's, seeing heart specialist, lung specialist, all types of doctors to try and figure out her next step. They decided the best option was to install a PICC into her arm to do at home injections to try and get the infection out of her blood stream and following that, heart surgery.
The road to recovery is going to be a long journey, and after spending weeks in and out of the hospital I can see how much it drained my mom, my best friend. It doesn't help with all the stress added that she is no longer allowed to return to work putting her out for possibly 4-6 weeks. The money I am asking for is to help put my moms mind at ease the we as a family and friends in the community can come together in a difficult time to help raise the money she doesn't have to pay off these medical bills and help financially for all the money she will not be making these next few weeks. My mom is my whole world, as many of you know she wouldn't want me asking for help but I am doing this to help relieve a little stress that is keeping her down. I am so thankful for anything we will receive, and I graciously ask for your assistance during this difficult time.
As I said, this is going to be a long and scary road ahead but if anyone knows my mom she is strong and will always pull through. Please help me, help her. I appreciate all your support through these last few weeks, and just know my mom loves and appreciates all that have stopped by or reached out during this difficult time.
