Remote Learners Excluded From Prom- Give a Prom

Donation protected

2020 COVID stripped the Omaha Public School’s students from so many of their milestones, like 2020 Prom and Homecoming. But at least they have this year’s 2021 Junior and Senior Prom to look forward to...right??? According to the Omaha Public School Board the answer is NO! Well, we say YES! Help us give these students the Prom they DESERVE!

In February 2021 the Omaha Public Schools (OPS) went full on IN-PERSON leaning and made the decision to NOT to allow any student that was a REMOTE LEARNER to attend the Prom!

Many of the students would learn of this decision by email from the School’s Superintendent, the students were crushed! Why were they being singled out because they were learning remote?

Several attempts were made to contact the Superintendent to understand the reasoning behind the decision, all attempts were met with “NO RESPONSE”! It was time to make a plead to the School Board. Finally, a response came through the local news. A statement sent to KETV News from the school district reads:

"Since our return to in-person learning, we have been consistent in the requirement of attending in-person learning to participate in extra-curricular activities and events. This reflects both the importance we place on health and safety and the essential work to educate our students. This will include prom."

The students were devastated! It was time for the Parents to take matters into their own hands. They would form a committee to give the students a safe and socially distance Prom!

That’s where YOU come in! We want to give these students a Prom that they deserve! But, pulling this off will take money! Join us and donate $5, $10, $15, $20 towards this Prom for our Remote Learners to help give them the Prom they deserve.

They attend school just like IN-PERSON students therefore, they shouldn’t be punished for learning online. For the Senior Class it will be there first high school prom and last...they don’t have 2022 to look to, they graduate this year!

All donations will be used for the event to include securing the facility/ location,  decorations,  food and non - alcohol beverages,  security,  sanitation stations,  and entertainment.
