A Vision of Hope: My Mom’s Journey to Sight

My mom has spent her life navigating the world through a blurred lens. Born legally blind in her left eye with a prescription of -18 and a severely impaired right eye at -11, her reality was shaped by shadows and indistinct figures. The first clear image she ever saw at the age of three was her own mom in a red sweater—a moment that became etched in her memory as a symbol of love and clarity amidst an otherwise hazy world.

From the age of five, my mom relied on contact lenses to help her see. They became her lifeline, allowing her to experience the world with some level of normalcy. But over the last five years, the vision in her only functioning eye has begun to fail her. A suspected stroke in her right eye, cornea inflammation, and progressive deterioration have made daily tasks increasingly difficult. Driving at night has become nearly impossible, and the fear of losing what little sight she has left weighs heavily on her.

Throughout it all, my mom has turned to faith, praying every day for a miracle—a chance to see without struggle. For years, the answer seemed out of reach. No surgical advancements could offer her the clarity she longed for. But now, after a lifetime of waiting, she has been given hope: she is finally a candidate for two eye surgeries that could transform her life. These procedures would not only restore her sight but also free her from the need for contact lenses and glasses forever.

As her daughter, I have watched my mom face these challenges with unwavering strength and grace. She has dedicated her life to helping others heal, guiding them through their own struggles while silently battling her own. Now, she needs our help.
