Hellen’s dream is to become a nurse, but financial barriers are standing in her way. With your support, we can help Hellen achieve her dream and bring hope to her family and community.

Za Ocean Racing is proud to join Emma and Nathan Outteridge in supporting the Kiwi Sponsorship Program, run for children at KAASO Uganda School. This program provides education and mentorship to orphans and disadvantaged children in one of the areas hardest-hit by the HIV/AIDS crisis. As part of this initiative, Za Ocean Racing is committed to empowering young women like Hellen to overcome barriers and build brighter futures through education and opportunity.

Background:

Hellen’s journey has been marked by resilience and hard work. When her father left and never returned, her family’s financial burden fell to her mother, Regina, who runs a small shop near KAASO. Despite these challenges, Hellen remained determined to pursue her education. Her grandfather, Edward, a retired teacher and brother to Dominic, who runs KAASO, has done what he can to support her, but his resources are stretched thin as he also supports his own children.

Thanks to the kindness of Dominic and his wife, Rose, Hellen was able to complete her secondary education this December. However, the cost of nursing school is beyond their means as they care for their own seven children and many others in need.

Hellen’s mother has since remarried, but her stepfather does not support Hellen, leaving her with no financial backing for her nursing studies. Despite these difficulties, Hellen’s positive attitude, dedication, and hope for a brighter future shine through.
