Skylar was a seemingly healthy active teenager just 4 short years ago. Now at 18 years old the healthy days feel like they were many years back.
Our daughter is diagnosed with several major chronic health issues, and every year more seem to appear. Dysautonomia is the umbrella that most of the diagnosis fall under. Dysautonomia refers to a disorder of autonomic nervous system and its functions. It affects the neural network that controls automatic processes such as breathing, heartrate, blood flow, pupil dilation and constriction and anything with the digestion process including the pancreas and gallbladder, in short everything that works “automatically” that we do not have to tell our bodies consciously to do.
Skylar has spent the majority of her teenage years sick and most of her social life are doctors’ appointments. The illnesses have truly made it hard to function daily. Without her feeding tube that delivers all of her nutrition and hydration she would no longer be with us.
Skylar is in constant pain that never ceases and is happy if she can ever sleep more than 3 hours at a time because her pain is so miserable.
Her last stay in the hospital was January 2018, as she laid in the bed with tears streaming down her beautiful face in extreme pain, I asked God again to guide us and help us. After all the hours of research and doctors’ appointments, I was guided to The Neurological Relief Center in Fayetteville Arkansas. This facility is helping many people with some of the major issues that Skylar experiences.
Our big problem is that our health insurance does not cover this treatment. We will be in Fayetteville for at least 10 weeks and the cost will be approximately $35,000.
It is hard for us to reach out and ask for money but we are desperate to give Skylar hope for a future. Please, please consider giving whatever amount you can to help give Skylar a future!
