Give reusable menstrual products to young girls in Eswatini
Hi, my name is Marianna and I am a student at Waterford Kamhlaba UWCSA, along with Aitana, Martta, Mokgadi, and Kristin. Our school has a strong focus on community service and learning about the world through interacting with the vibrant communities that surround us. Giving back to our community, particularly those who are most vulnerable is extremely important to the spirit of the school, and it is even apart of our curriculum as an IB school! Here is where we need your help… around 59% of the population of Eswatini live in poverty, 20% of which live in extreme poverty. In Eswatini, a pack of sanitary pads can cost up to 20% of the average monthly income. This is simply unaffordable for those living in poverty and therefore many girls in Eswatini are forced to miss school and are unable to properly manage their periods. Me and the above group of Waterford students are aiming to raise money to distribute Days for girls period packs to those most in need in Eswatini. A days for girls pack includes: 2 reusable pads, 8 reusable liners, 1 carry pouch, 1 cloth bag, 2 pairs of period under-wear, 1 wash cloth, and 1 bar of soap. Each pack costs E200 (approx. £10), and we are aiming to provide as many girls as possible with the means to take control of their own bodies so that they may make the most of all of their opportunities in life. We would appreciate whatever donations you are willing to offer, thank you so much for taking the time to read this! xx
