Give money, help babies!

Hello!!

We’ve been bowled over by the lovely messages and cards from everyone – and delighted by how many of you referred to his adorableness. Obviously, Freddie is the most beautiful baby in the world (objectively speaking, of course), and it was lovely of you to notice and acknowledge it.

And thank you ever so much for wanting to buy him a gift. Unfortunately for Freddie, we lead a pretty minimalist lifestyle – which means the poor boy will be reduced to making Action Man figures out of used shampoo bottles and learning to draw with the sole biro we carry around with us for landing card purposes. Until he’s able to report us to the authorities for parental meanness, that’s how we’re going to roll.

Which means… while we’re super-duper thankful for your generosity, we don’t actually feel like we need anything more than we already own. What we’d like to do instead is promote a far worthier cause: the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson (EGA) Hospital Charity, which provides equipment, resarch and support that the NHS doesn’t fund at UCLH – the hospital where Freddie was born.

He arrived five weeks early (FYI: we HATE surprises), and we experienced firsthand just how wonderful the EGA charity really is. Freddie and his poorly buddies are looked after round-the-clock by the most wonderful team of neonatal doctors we could ever wish for – doctors who have both the time and inclination to give us detailed updates whenever we visit him, and who’ll spend a good 15 minutes removing all his wires and tubes just so we can have a quick cuddle. Seriously: these doctors are marvellous. We feel like crying with happiness every time we visit and see how beautifully they’re taking care of our baby.

When it comes to equipment, the charity has paid for breastfeeding chairs (one at every cotside), Optiflow machines (which assist babies’ breathing outside of the incubator – providing the opportunity for some much-needed bonding time), EEG machines (to record brain activity) and a wide range of other stuff. Funding has also gone into huge amounts of research that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise.

We want other parents to continue receiving the incredible care and attention the three of us have benefitted from, and we’d love for you to help us achieve that! Rather than buy us a baby gift, please consider donating a small amount to the EGA Hospital Charity instead. There’s a small chance Freddie will resent not having a state-of-the-art changing table, but that’s a risk we’re more than willing to take.

Thank you hugely for anything you're willing to donate.

Lots of love,

Mish & Rob (not Freddie, because – while he's definitely on course to becoming a genius – he doesn't know what the heck is going on yet) xxx
