Jerry Botts Nursing Home Fund

As you may know, my father, Jerry Botts, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease over six years ago.   Over that short time, this disease has robbed him of his memory completely,  a good deal of his personality, and his overall health.  It has robbed my mother of the love of her life, has robbed my children of their grandfather, and robbed the world of a kind soul and spiritual leader.  Alzheimer's disease is a terribly sad and painful downhill journey with no prevention, solid treatments or a cure.  No one would have imagined that my father would be impacted and I know I was fully unprepared to believe that I would be reaching out asking those he loved to help him.

My dad was a fantastic father and an even better role model for others, spreading love and wisdom to all he touched.  He was strong, ethical, calm, logical, peaceful, loving, joyful, and hard-working.  But, I know he didn't foresee this in his future and certainly wasn't planning on spending his last days like this.  And while it is impossible to prepare emotionally for the toll this takes on the entire family while your loved one fades away, it is almost as difficult to prepare for the financial costs associated with a chronic disease, especially one that requires 24 hours of watchful eyes and constant attention.

My mother, Paula,  has been his primary caretaker, providing a loving and safe home for the husband she has adored for over a half-century, but who no longer remembers her name.  She has been a pillar of strength and unwavering in her advocacy for him.  Sadly,  the disease has advanced to the point where it is no longer possible for her to care for him at home.  He now requires specialized care in a skilled nursing facility where his health and safety can be monitored continuously.  Late last week, my mom was forced to make the devastating decision to move dad to a nearby home where she can still attend to him daily. However, nursing care costs are exorbitant.  My parents are devoted servants of God and their beloved community.  Throughout their time together, they focused on sharing the little they did have with others and didn't focus on saving for the unthinkable.

The last several years have taught me a lot about love, loss, gratitude, and fortitude.  It has been unbearable losing my father, but I have also found joy and solace in thinking about who my dad was, what he taught me, and how how he lived.  My mom and dad were charitable to their core.  They were the physical embodiment of generosity and would have never wanted to ask for anything from others, but I am hoping that you will help them  in their time of need.  Please consider giving back to a man and woman who have given so much to others; who have counseled countless families through tragedy, illnesses, and celebrations, and have not asked for anything in return.

Monthly out-of -pocket expenses are in excess of $3000.00 for his medical care, so your donation of any amount will help.  All funds raised will go toward my father's care so that we can keep him close to my mom for as long as possible.

Your generosity is appreciated greatly by the entire Botts Family.

Sincerely,
Mike
