Give EVERY Individual in Uvalde, TX a Heart Rock

Hi, my name is Tom, "The Heart Rock Guy". I'm a Utah-based motivational speaker and stone carver.


The Story:

 

Three years ago, I was a teacher in a small community that was shaken by several deaths by suicide. I began carving heart rocks to give my students a physical reminder that they matter and are loved. They gave away their heart rocks and asked for more.

 

That's when I realized that a heart rock is either a personal reminder that you matter, or a tool for compassion, and both uses are HUGELY impactful!


The Goal:

 

Help me provide the Uvalde, TX community with enough heart rocks for its members to give a heart rock and a message of love and support to every single family in the entire city.


How I will Accomplish the Goal:

 

I went to Uvalde, stayed with the EMTs, gave them heart rocks to remind themselves and their families that they matter and are loved, then asked them, "Where should I go next to deliver heart rocks?" They said, "Go to the school district offices." So there I went. I furloughed heart rocks and asked the same question. They sent me to the El Progreso Memorial Library. Repeat. The police department. The hospital. Four retirement homes. Counseling centers. Churches. Mortuaries. And many, many individual stops all along the way. 

In total, I recruited hundreds of residents to distribute 8000 heart rocks. 

The Why:

 

I know that heart rocks make a difference when used as a tool for compassion. They open doors and begin meaningful conversations, then remind individuals that they matter and are loved.

 

In the last two years, I have hand-carved over 21,000 heart-shaped rocks and individually given away most of them to remind people that they matter and are loved. Families in all 50 States and over 50 countries have heart rocks reminding them that they matter.


How I will Use the Funds: (*see updates: I DID DELIVER 8000 HEARTS in OCTOBER)

 

With the funds raised from this GoFundMe, I will hand-carve the heart rocks, personally deliver them to the Uvalde community, and coordinate the distribution.

 

I will continue to leverage my social media and farmers markets to fundraise towards the 6,000 heart rock goal. I hope to far exceed the goal and perhaps even be able to give one or more heart rocks to every person in Uvalde--wouldn't that be AMAZING!
