Hi everyone, this is Connie's family raising money to give her a proper funeral that she deserves.
As most of you know, she has been very sick since May 2022 when she had gallbladder surgery that turned out bad. Recovery took a long time, and after months in the hospital and then a couple of months in rehab to relearn everything, she was back home with us in November 2022.
Once back home, she still had to do dialysis every other day because she was in end-stage kidney failure, which was another hard thing that she had been going through since May 2022. It took the biggest toll on her body, along with a lot of other medical issues that have been back and forth since May 2022.
Now, in August 2024, she went into the ER with low oxygen levels and was then transferred to a bigger hospital that could handle what she would need. During the stay, her airway collapsed twice, which led to them putting her on a ventilator.
At this point, she sat on the ventilator for a week, not knowing what was collapsing her airway. So, we decided another trach was the best option, and thankfully she was fully awake and agreed that was what she wanted—anything to help her live.
Once she got the trach, we thought, okay, we're heading in the right direction, and she got sent to a select rehab facility to get weaned off the trach. She was there for about two weeks and then came down with a horrible case of pneumonia, which then led to her being put back on the ventilator, unfortunately, and being sent back to the big hospital.
It took her a while to get rid of the pneumonia, and at this point, her body was pretty dependent on the ventilator.
Once the pneumonia was cleared, she got sent to Kindred rehab facility. At this point, she was still not walking, getting up, nothing. Her body had been through so much at this point.
While in Kindred, we tried multiple days weaning off the vent, and nothing was working for her.
She was very sad but still wanted to continue to fight, so that's what we all helped her with.
After a couple of weeks in Kindred, we noticed she became more sleepy and couldn't open her eyes. At this point, they decided getting her back to the hospital was the best option. There were also multiple surgeries she needed that they couldn't offer. Once we got to the hospital, they said her thyroid level hadn't been checked as it should, and her level was way too high, which is a big reason she was out of it.
So, for the past 27 days, she has been in Mercy, and it's been struggle after struggle.
She had to go under for a pacemaker because her heart rate wasn't keeping up as it should. She came down with another horrible infection that was on the side of her face, blood transfusions, and all of her levels were just up and down.
Finally, she got to the point where she was tired, weak, and very sad. She decided and told us that this isn't what she wanted anymore. As hard as it was, we all respected her decision, and she passed away on 11/12/24 at 4:58 pm.
With all that being said, we'd love to give her a proper funeral so everyone that loved her can come say their final goodbyes.
We appreciate everyone more than ever, and if you find it in your heart to donate, we would be forever grateful for you, and know she would be too. We know times are tough for everyone, so if you can't donate, we understand. If you could please share and get the word out for our beautiful angel.
As of right now we are unsure of any dates and times, but that will be updated soon.
