Give Chase a Chance

Chase King was born on 1/11/17,  Chase is the first born son of Ann (Foley) King (Foxboro/Rockland, MA)  and Derek King (Marshfield, MA).   Ann and Derek were married in 2014 and moved to Red Oak, Texas in December, 2015.  The move to Texas was made with the hope of providing a good life for a much wanted large family.

Soon after Chase's birth, doctors became concered and did testing that led to the Canavan Disease diagnosis.  Canavan Disease is a progressive, fatal, neurological disorder that begins in infancy.  It is caused by an inherited genetic abnormality :  the lack of an essential enzyme causes deterioration of the white matter (myelin) in the brain, therby preventing the proper transmission of nerve signals.

Symptoms of Canavan Disease vary, but generally include rapidly increasing head circumference, lack of head control, reduced visual responsiveness and abnormal muscle tone such as stiffness or floppiness.  Children with Canavan Disease cannot crawl, walk, sit or talk.  Over time they may suffer seizures, become paralyzed, developmentally delayed or blind and have trouble swallowing.  Deafness may also result.  Symptoms usually become apparent when the infant is 3-9 months old.  Many children do not live past age 10.  At the preset time there is no cure for Canavan Disease.  Treatment involves managing the symptoms. 

Ann and Derek will need love, support and financial assistance to help with the medical support and equipment to provide for Chase.
