Give back to Piasa Martial Arts

My heart broke tonight.
Tonight I had the opportunity to take Aidan to his Tae Kwan Do class at Piasa Martial Arts in Alton. I saw a huge for sale sign on the building. I inquired why the building was for sale. I was told that because of the shut down due to COVID-19 that they had gotten 2 months behind on their mortgage payments.
The main reason we chose to have Aidan go to Piasa Martial Arts is because they are a family owned and operated Do Jang and they are Christians. Not only do they teach Aidan how to defend himself, but on the few occasions I get to go they also teach listening to your parents, teachers and most importantly being good to others. I find that their teachings (not preaching) can also benefit me in my daily life. They teach working hard and having goals and striving to be better, not only at martial arts, but as a person.
As an individual in a community I want to help them. I ask you. How do I do that? They do have a Facebook page with videos and training that haven’t had many views. Do I share their Facebook page and ask people to share it? Do I start a go fund me page and ask for donations?
As 1 person in a community, how do I best help this small family business in their time of need? They have been so important to Aidan and his being the young person he is today.
I don’t want to see them lose their building and in my opinion they are extremely important to Aidan and our family and even more importantly, our community. There are people of all ages and all ethnicities that attend their classes. Darla even attends there as a black belt.
A lot of small businesses are struggling during these times. I want to be someone that makes a difference and that steps up and helps this one out, because I believe that what they are teaching in not only martial arts, but on a personal level is shaping people of all ages and walks of life into being great people.
