As anyone who has met our dad will tell you, he has a heart of gold and will do anything for anyone. He is selfless, devoted, and has pride in everything he does. He cares for others with such passion and has a determination to make the world a better place. On August 26, something awful happened to a man who did not deserve it.
Our dad, Jim, owns his own business of handyman services. He works constantly to get his jobs done efficiently and effectively, is well referred by others, and has so much work he can't keep up with it all. On Sunday morning, he was getting ready to go out to a job. His truck was loaded with all the tools needed, and he ran inside to kiss our mother goodbye. As he was coming back outside, he noticed a man getting into his truck and backing out of the driveway. Without thinking, he ran towards the truck to try and stop the man, but he was too late.
The man gunned the truck down the ally and ran my dad over, breaking his leg. He was rushed to the hospital and found out his femur had been broken. While we recognize the accident could have been worse, we were all devastated to hear the news. How could this have happened, to such a hard working, kind soul? The first call he made as he was laying on the ground waiting for the ambulance was to the man he was supposed to do work for that morning. If that doesn't tell you what kind of heart our dad has, we're not sure what will!
Our dad would do anything for anyone, friends, family, and strangers. It is unlikely his beloved Ford F150 will be found, and the same with all of the tools that were taken with it. Let's show my dad how people can come together and give him a little hope back in humanity. He is in a lot of pain, and the recovery time will be quite a while, and expenses will continue to mount.
